Editorial: "Authorities are to 'protect and serve'"

That's what I'm talkin' about. The unnamed Courier editor gets a cookie. Police officers who act like frat yobbos should be taken out and, I don't know, have their heads shaved or something.

Cops in this area are taking a hit. Wow, the dog attacks in PV, the Aryan deputy, now this. Who's hiring these people and where's the oversight? Not sure if this works this way, but in the case of the county deputies, does the county HR have anything to do with that? If so, then the BOS just approved for the former head of county HR to be the new county administrator. If there is something there, then whoops. jared

I gotta agree ,any military ,or paramilitary organization is only as good as its leadership.

cookie from me too. i'm sure this is
common practice in PDs -- being busted for it probably is not.

This sort of hazing is common among organizations that involve primarily young men, but I take your overall point, that it seems like the quality of the recruits is falling.

There may be other factors, given the economic choices available to the good ones and the overall manpower shortage created by Bush's adventurism. The police agencies may just have to take what they can get, for the most part.
