A1: "Smoking ban unpopular at PV bars"

I'm so surprised. Nice little stroke in here for Brad Fain, though.

Lets see what happens when people who have been avoiding the "Bar atmosphere" cos of the smoke start showing up and spending money.

I'm waiting for that day... my impression was that the big local push for no smoking was by folk who hadn't been near a bar in the past 20 years and who secretly wished that Whiskey Row would go away.

Smoking smells. And why should people who are smart enough not to clog their lungs with that stuff be subjected to secondhand smoke from those who aren't smart enough to do the same? I have been known to spend more than a few dollars at Whiskey Row and other local bars myself.

I can't say who was in the big push -- or was it pushback? -- but I'm a big proponent of getting the smoke out. There are many reasons for this, but I'll mention one, that as a musician I have to work in those bars. I want health for myself and my colleagues, but I also want economic health for the venues, and we've consistently seen that when tobacco is run out, more money comes in the door.
