Brewer on religion

Just a quick note to point out a feature by Howard Fischer, carried on the religion page of the Independent today. For practicing Protestants this will probably seem eminently moderate and reasonable, but for me and I suspect a lot of non-religious people, it's a little creepy. See for yourself.

    I don't know, the "Country of Christianity" thing was a little spooky, as was the bit of wonder about why thing that used to be provided by churches are now provided by the state (hint for Jan: It's because the church and the state used to be one and the same), but other than that, it seemed reasonable. As for the prayer stuff, she was commenting on her own beliefs, and she did seem to do a good job of keeping the wall intact between her personal beliefs and her political responsibilities. I've certainly heard worse, from more highly placed officials to boot.

There are two kinds of anonymous comments: those by people who have a genuine fear of revenge from the dark side, and those from darksiders just hiding to avoid accountability. If, on the other hand, you're willing to stand by your convictions and post under your own name or a regular handle, your comments belong to you, and I'll edit them only on egregious violations of respect for others.

If this doesn't work for you, I'm sure you'll be happier somewhere else.
