Wiederaenders: "Roundabouts leave a lot to be desired"
2 comments:
I encourage you to share your own views and experience with me and other readers. How you do that matters, and I'm committed to maintaining a place where readers and commenters can feel safe from adolescent BS. So here's the deal:
There are two kinds of anonymous comments: those by people who have a genuine fear of revenge from the dark side, and those from darksiders just hiding to avoid accountability. You may post comments anonymously, but I reserve the right to treat anonymous comments as found items that belong to me and do with them as I see fit.
If, on the other hand, you're willing to stand by your convictions and post under your own name or a regular handle, your comments belong to you, and I'll edit them only on egregious violations of respect for others.
If this doesn't work for you, I'm sure you'll be happier somewhere else.
I agree with the blog. I heard that the number of accidents at that intersection went from 10 to 16 with the roundabout being the only change. Are Prescott drivers 'zombies,' as Tim has written about before? No doubt. Does that make roundabouts a good idea? I think people need lights and easily understood traffic devices ... because they are driving distracted. Stay safe out there and watch out for the other guy!
ReplyDeletetim mentions the use of traffic circles in europe, but only to imply that they only work if one drives on the left side of the road, or that the brits are goofy, or something.
ReplyDeletethey are used extensively in europe, in countries where they drive on the right and the left, in heavy traffic situations (ever been to amsterdam?), and they seem to work pretty well.
they may well take some getting used to. i'm hearing a lot of "we've always done it this way" instead of a more rational argument -- "explain why traffic circles are worth the uncomfortable period of adjustment".
